I’m just a guy in North San Diego County who loves coffee — making it, learning about it, and sharing it with the people around me.
Hill of Beans started when a friend who used to roast my coffee moved on, and instead of finding a replacement, I figured I’d figure it out myself. What I didn’t expect was how that decision would completely change how I think about coffee.
Roasting forced me to slow down and actually understand what I was drinking — where the beans come from, how altitude and soil affect flavor, what happens inside the roaster at different temperatures. It turned something I enjoyed into something I’m genuinely fascinated by.
How We Do It
Every batch is small by design. I roast on Sundays and ship every Tuesday, which means what arrives at your door is as fresh as it gets. No sitting in a warehouse. No roasted-months-ago beans dressed up in fancy packaging. Just coffee roasted specifically for your order.
I source beans I’m excited about — right now that includes coffees from Ethiopia, Colombia, Guatemala, and more — and I’m always learning, always tasting, and always looking for the next great cup to share.
Why North County San Diego
This community is home, and being a local roaster means something to me. If you’re nearby, delivery is free. If you want to talk coffee, I’m always up for it. If you’re located outside North San Diego County, I’ll gladly get coffee in the mail for you!
